Invitation to participate in the development of the Målviken Tungsten Skarn Occurence, Central Norway

Scheelite (CaWo4)

The development of the Målviken occurrence is carried out by the private prospectors Peter Skaarup and Kåre M. Lande in cooperation with Brønney Kommune (local municipality), Nordland Fylkeskommune (local council), The Norwegian Industrial and Regional Development Fund (SND), Norwegian Trade Council.

Information on the project may be obtained from the "Prospectus", (downloadable here from .PDF-file 710 kb).

The occurrenceThe Målvikzone

Scheelite (CaWO4) is present in skarn bands within the 30-60 m wide and 900 m long Målviken zone which can be followed from sea-level and up to 500 m.  89 exposures of rich mineralisation outlining 13 zones of "ore" are known within 2/3 part of the main zone.

The occurrence has an estimated ressource of 2,509,300 t ore, containing 0.7-0.9% WO3. Compared to the world´s proven tungsten reserves grading more than 0.3% WO3, the Målviken occurrence is placed as no. 1 in Europe and no. 21 in the world.

The occurrence has a unique location at the shore of the Tosenfjord. It is crossed by main road and powerline. The nearest house is at a distance of 2.5 km, but otherwise the area is urbanised and skilled labourforce may be recruited locally. The nearest airport is in Brønnøysund, 70 km away, the local main town with 3.700 inhabitants. The distance to Trondheim is 370 km.

Economy

The ongoing exploration phase is estimated to be USD 615,000. Investments in mine construction and in a 300,000 ton per year production of ore grading 0.8% WO3 in situ is USD 14,536,000. The investments has a 20% internal rate of return at the actual high price of tungsten concentrate USD 76 per mtu (10 kg) relevant for scheelite . (See cach flow calculation).

The forecast for tungsten ore production is quite promising. The price increased 77% from USD 44 July 2000 to USD 76 March 2001. Further increases are to be expected at least about 2005, when the world proven tungsten ressources are to be exhausted by the present consumption.
